Obituary for Alonzo Eric Normore

Alonzo Eric Normore
Alonzo Eric Normore
Jan 2, 1925 - May 7, 2017
It is with sadness that the family of Alonzo Normore announces his passing at the Leonard A.
Miller Center, St. John’s, NL, aged 92 years. Predeceased by his wife Ruby (Cole) Normore
(2013), sister Mabel Abbott, and brother Reg Normore. Left with fond memories are his children
Grant, Dale Butler (Robert), Gaye Skelding (Thomas), Glenn (Gillian), and Roy. Also leaving to
mourn sister Netta Short, brothers Chesley and Roy, seven grandchildren, Peter (Twyla),
Christopher (Katie), and Andrew Butler, Mitchell and Megan Normore, Emma and Katie
Normore, and great grandchildren Heidi and Hudson Butler. Also leaving to mourn his passing
are special friends Job and Judy Halfyard.
Alonzo was born in Wellman’s Cove to Daniel Normore and Frances (Vokey) Normore. He
spent his early years working in the logging industry where he developed a great love for the
outdoors and a respect for nature and a simpler life. Later his desire to further his education led
him to St. John’s where he studied and became a Stationary (Power) Engineer second class.
He was an active member of the United Church AOTS Men’s service club, Masons, and Mazol
Shriners. His strong will, and dedication to exercise enabled him to return to his beloved log
cabin in Wellman’s Cove and spend many years working the land and utilizing the forest in his
retirement years - a passion he enjoyed up to a few months before his passing.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday May 11 from Grace United Church, Springdale,
NL. Interment to follow at United Church Cemetery, Springdale. Funeral arrangements
entrusted to Ken Goodyear of Central Funeral Homes, 57 Little Bay Road, Springdale, NL. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace United Church, Springdale. For condolences
