Paul Cantwell

March 31, 1960 - April 18, 2025

Mar 31, 1960 - Apr 18, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Paul Anthony Cantwell announces his passing on April 18, 2025, at the age of 65. Born and raised in Bishop’s Falls, NL, Paul was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and a cherished brother. He is predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Lillian Cantwell. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Catherine; daughters, Charis (Leroy) and Christie (Carlos); and his six grandchildren: Jaxson, MacKenzie, Chelsie, Gage, Ryder, and Ryleigh. Paul will also be dearly missed by his siblings: Jim, John (Laura), David (Denine), and Karen (Barry), along with extended family (nieces & nephews) Very Dear friends Roy & Judy, Rosie, Ryhan of NS. Paul and Catherine were high school sweethearts who reconnected over a coffee date in 1996, rekindling a love that would see them through the years that followed. He cherished their long drives together, exploring the scenic beauty of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia with their dogs always along for the ride. Not a day passed without Paul showering Cathy with words of love, always reminding her of her beauty. Though much of his retirement was spent managing health challenges, Paul found comfort in the simple pleasures with his wife — catching the 5 o’clock news, watching Wheel of Fortune, bonding with his two cats and engaging in conversations about politics, music, movies and a good laugh. Paul retired at the age of 54 after a long and dedicated career with Bell Aliant. Throughout his tenure, he held various roles, including playing a key part in bringing fiber optic technology to Newfoundland and working as a fiber optic technician. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the paramedics, hospital staff, and Central Funeral Home for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations to help with funeral expenses would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made directly to Central Funeral Homes at contact@centralfuneralhomes.ca or to the family.

Alice Tobin

Alice Tobin

October 13, 1934 - April 17, 2025

Oct 13, 1934 - Apr 17, 2025

It is with deep sadness that the family of Alice Bernice Tobin announce her peaceful passing, at the age of 90, surrounded by loving family at the Lionel Kelland Hospice on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Alice (known affectionally as Al or Ali to her numerous nieces and nephews) was a free spirit who marched to the beat of her own drum. She was funny, fearless, and a true believer in life being about the experiences you embraced. Everyone who knew her experienced her legendary quick wit. Her fascination with the colour pink matched her vibrant personality and also signified her uniqueness which brought light into any room she entered. A true storyteller gifted with a photographic memory, Al could entertain for hours with fascinating yarns and memories from her early childhood. Her wide and varied collection of books marked her as a committed bibliophile. She used special trinkets and keepsakes for bookmarks and, often, lucky family members got to take them home as a reminder of special times with her. For years, the soundtrack of visits to Al’s apartment was the steady click of her knitting needles as she created special sweaters, scarves, mittens, gloves and doll clothes for family and hospital sales. If you were truly lucky, you got to spend the night in her wonderland of an apartment and have fashion shows with her pink 70s wardrobe staples, costume jewelry and pink lipstick. If you were really quick, you could even spritz some of her prized L‘Air du Temps. Al was generous to a fault. Her spirit of giving drew her to many fields of volunteering including the VON, Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Canadian Cancer Society, canvassing for the Red Cross and the Red Shield Campaign, among a few. She was dedicated to causes closest to her heart, such as the Lionel Kelland Hospice. She also had an indomitable sense of adventure that manifested in a trailblazing career at the paper mill in Grand Falls-Windsor. She entered the mill in 1957 (the Anglo-Newfoundland Development Company Ltd. at that time) where her fierce intelligence and organizational skills led her to the Mill Stores as a Buyer at the Grand Falls Division. That same spirit saw her travel across Canada, the United States and Europe with close friends. She also routinely kept golf clubs in the trunk of her car for quick rounds before going to work in the morning. She also adored entertaining at her cabin at Sandy Point. She loved to be surrounded by friends and family, and to laugh and dance above all else. If you were part of that circle, you remember those times and the legendary steak dinners. Predeceased by her parents, Gertrude and Patrick Tobin; sibling Sister Patricia; brothers-in-law Jérôme Delage and Ron Ennis. She leaves to mourn siblings John (Fernande), Marguerite, Mike (Anne), Jim, Delores, Joan and Phyllis (Len), as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to her longtime friend Pansy Beason for her invaluable assistance, the staff of Hollett’s Retirement Home for their many kindnesses and the compassionate care of the staff at the Lionel Kelland Hospice. Donations in her memory can be made to the Lionel Kelland Hospice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Central Funeral Home (Grand Falls-Windsor). A private funeral service will be held in the chapel for family members.
